Attendance and absences

Students must attend school regularly so they can achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options.

Regular attendance at school is important to ensure satisfactory progress is being made in all aspects of school development. As per the NSW Department of Education School attendance policy and the Education Act 1990 (NSW) a legal requirement that parents contact the school before or on the day of the absence, either by phone, email, Sentral App or a written explanation.

Parents of students who are absent from school for unexplained periods will be supported with Attendance Improvement Plans, and possibly referred to the Home School Liaison Officer (HSLO).

Absence notes

When a child is absent from school for any reason, a written communication is required for legal records. The Sentral Parent App is our main portal for recording absences. It can be used on a phone or computer. If you require assistance with using the Sentral Parent App, please visit the school office. Absences can also be communicated via text message, phone call or email. If your child will be away for more than 3 days, please inform the school office or class teacher. If your child is going to be out of school and you know in advance, please inform the office or teacher, or use the Sentral Parent App. For long absences (e.g. overseas holiday), you will be required to complete an Application for extended leave - travel, which needs to be signed off by the principal prior to the commencement of the leave.

Reasons for absences

If your child is away, it is important that you provide a valid reason as soon as possible. Acceptable reasons include illness, medical appointments, family commitments, leave that has recieved prior Principal approval, or official school business (such as attendance at sporting events representing our school).

Wet weather flexible attendance

Flexible leave is available as an option for significant wet weather events - class work will be provided by your child’s class teacher (to complete either as a work pack or on Microsoft Teams), and attendance on the roll will be changed to ‘flexible’ upon presentation of completed work.

Late Arrivals

Early Departures

In NSW, all children from the age of 6 are legally required to attend school or be  registered for home schooling  through the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). All students must complete Year 10, or its equivalent and remain in school, employment or training until they turn 17.
